Who We Are

sassastatuscheckza.co.za is an independent, privately owned informational website run by South Africans, for South Africans. WE ARE NOT A GOVERNMENT SITE, not a SASSA branch, and not affiliated with any financial institution. We are a small team of South Africans who understand how confusing the SASSA system can be β€” especially when the official website is down, when you don’t know what your status result means, or when you get a “Declined” message and don’t know what to do next.

We built this site because we saw a real need: millions of South Africans are searching for help with their SASSA SRD status check every single month, and the information available was scattered, confusing, or buried in government jargon. We wanted to change that.

Everything on this site is written in plain, everyday language β€” the kind of language you’d use to explain something to a family member. We use the same words you use when you search Google. We answer the same questions you’re actually asking.

What We Are β€” and What We're Not

Our Values

Accuracy First

We verify every fact against official SASSA announcements. We update our content every month β€” especially payment dates and grant amounts β€” because outdated information can cost people money.

Always Free

This website will always be free to use. We believe access to information about social grants should not cost anything. There are no subscriptions, no premium tiers, and no hidden fees.

Privacy & Safety

We never ask for your ID number, banking details, or phone number. We actively warn our readers about SASSA scams and fake websites. Your safety is non-negotiable to us.

Plain Language

Government documents and official communications can be hard to understand. We translate complex SASSA processes into clear, simple steps that anyone can follow β€” no matter their education level.

Made for Mzansi

We write for South Africans. Our language, our examples, our understanding of the challenges people face β€” everything is rooted in the South African context. We understand the pressures our people face.

Always Updated

SASSA information changes constantly. We update our pages monthly and immediately whenever major SASSA policy changes are announced β€” so you always have the most current information.

Our Editorial Principles

We only publish what we can verify

All information about SASSA payment dates, grant amounts, eligibility criteria, and processes is sourced directly from official SASSA communications, government press releases, and the official SASSA website. We do not publish rumours or unverified claims.

We clearly label what is official vs. our explanation

When we explain a SASSA process in our own words, we make it clear that it's our interpretation of official information β€” and we always link to the official source so you can verify it yourself.

We update when things change

SASSA grant amounts, payment dates, and eligibility rules change. We commit to updating our content within 48 hours of any official SASSA announcement that affects the accuracy of information on our site.

We correct our mistakes

If we publish something that turns out to be incorrect, we correct it promptly and transparently. If you spot an error on our site, please let us know via our Contact page.

We are transparent about what we are

We prominently display our independence notice on every page. We never misrepresent ourselves as an official government site or as SASSA. Our disclaimer is clear and visible to every visitor.

Our Story

2020

SASSA SRD Grant Launched

The South African government introduced the R350 Social Relief of Distress grant during the COVID-19 pandemic. Millions of South Africans struggled to understand the new online-only application and status check system.

2023

R350 Becomes R370

The grant was increased to R370 per month. Confusion grew as people still searched for "R350 status check" while the grant had changed. The information gap widened.

2026

sassastatuscheckza.co.za Launched

We launched this website to fill the information gap β€” providing clear, accurate, always-updated guidance for the 4.5 million+ South Africans who search for SASSA SRD help every month.

2027

Grant Extended

The South African government extended the SRD R370 grant through to March 2027. We continue to serve as the most comprehensive independent guide to the grant, updated every month without fail.
